In 2019, I decided to try posting some lyrics from Christmas songs that mean a lot to me every day of December. After my mom’s passing in 2003, the bottom dropped out of Christmas for me, and honesty it never came back. So, this is a way to at least start to wrap my head around such a significant season – the season of Advent. Of course, I’m already a day late, so I’ll post a couple today, and we’ll pretend I’m right on top of things, ‘k?
Right, Calbert…
The mystery, the wonder – this is Advent…
Let all mortal flesh keep silence,
And with fear and trembling stand;
Ponder nothing earthly-minded,
For with blessing in his hand,
Christ our God to earth descendeth,
Our full homage to demand.
– Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence, Liturgy of St. James, bef.400, tr. by Gerard Moultrie, 1864
Wonderful Cal! You made a great hymn, greater!
