31 Days of Christmas Lyrics, Day 1 (Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence)

Silent Night, Moonlight Light

In 2019, I decided to try posting some lyrics from Christmas songs that mean a lot to me every day of December. After my mom’s passing in 2003, the bottom dropped out of Christmas for me, and honesty it never came back. So, this is a way to at least start to wrap my head around such a significant season – the season of Advent. Of course, I’m already a day late, so I’ll post a couple today, and we’ll pretend I’m right on top of things, ‘k?

Right, Calbert…

The mystery, the wonder – this is Advent…

Let all mortal flesh keep silence,
And with fear and trembling stand;
Ponder nothing earthly-minded,
For with blessing in his hand,
Christ our God to earth descendeth,
Our full homage to demand.
Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence, Liturgy of St. James, bef.400, tr. by Gerard Moultrie, 1864
